In certain patients the gap between the tooth and the gum has widened due to bacterial growth between the tooth and the gum.  This can eventually lead to tooth loss.  Sometimes this area can become so deep it's difficult to get it thoroughly clean even with the best efforts.  In this case we apply an antibiotic gel called Arestin to the area.  The Arestin kills the bacteria living in the pocket between the tooth and the gums, and the gums regain their health.    In 6 weeks the health of the area is noticeably improved, and, in many cases, the tooth is saved.
